ABSTRACT
XRTrain is an immersive XR platform specifically developed for the training and continuing education of healthcare and emergency service personnel. The application focuses on the acquisition of procedural skills, such as preparing for endotracheal intubation and carrying out fire safety protocols. With its realistic visualisations and user-centred design, XRTrain delivers hands-on training in a safe environment, enhancing responsiveness in critical situations.
CHALLENGE
Healthcare is characterised by high stress and complex tasks. Traditional training methods often lack the realism required for procedural skills like intubation or fire response. This gap in training can lead to uncertainty and errors, errors that may have serious consequences in real-life emergencies.
SOLUTION
XRTrain offers highly realistic simulations of emergency scenarios and essential workflows. The platform allows users to continuously practise and refine procedural skills such as airway management and building evacuation. Its repeatability and intuitive interface support effective skill development. The realistic scenarios not only increase safety, but have also been shown to reduce error rates by up to 25%.
RESEARCH
In a study involving 41 participants, those trained with VR completed real-world tasks more quickly than the control group. This suggests improved efficiency and deeper comprehension through immersive learning. Furthermore, 85.7% of users found the training enjoyable, 81% were satisfied with the experience, and 71.4% reported easy access. This combination of hands-on learning and user-friendliness positions XR as a highly effective tool in professional healthcare training.
