ABSTRACT
The XRC Car Painter is an XR application that allows users to experience the work of an automotive refinisher in a playful and realistic way. Developed for the WKO Talent Centre, this immersive environment offers young people and career starters the opportunity to explore the profession without exposure to health risks while gaining valuable hands-on experience. By combining gamification with an intuitive interface, the application not only showcases the daily tasks of the profession, but also supports career orientation in a safe and engaging setting.
CHALLENGE
Becoming an automotive refinisher presents certain challenges for those considering the field, particularly due to the necessary protective equipment and potential health risks. These factors make it difficult to offer realistic insights into the job without compromising safety. Traditional career exploration methods often fall short when it comes to conveying the hands-on aspects of the role.
SOLUTION
The XRC Car Painter provides an immersive, interactive XR solution that allows users to explore the profession in a safe virtual environment. The application simulates realistic car bodies and tools, enabling users to experiment with different paint colours and techniques in a gamified setting. Thanks to its intuitive operation and minimal menu navigation, users can gain practical insights and build a clear understanding of a refinisher’s working day, without the health risks associated with real-life painting procedures.
